Dr. Leslie Russell-Martin M.S. LMFT, Ph.D. LP

Dr. Leslie is an American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy Clinical Member and Approved Supervisor. She is also an approved supervisor for the Minnesota boards of Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, and Board of Behavioral Health. Dr. Leslie is a MN Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a MN Licensed Psychologist.  She is also Advanced Certified by the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA) and is a mentor of new EAGALA professionals. She holds additional certifications in Autism and Parent Child Relational Therapy.

                Dr. Leslie has led conferences in the areas of children’s mental health, trauma, reactive attachment, therapeutic techniques, and autism.  She has also served as Adjunct faculty at St. Cloud State University and Hamline University.

Dr. Leslie specializes in couples, family and children’s mental health.  She is also experienced in clinical diagnosis and evaluation, the treatment of child and adult trauma, and childhood developmental disorders, including autism spectrum issues. Dr. Leslie’s specialties include Autism and Reactive Attachment disorders as well as infant and child mental health.

                . One of the clinics, and Dr. Leslie’s, passions is to provide quality mental health care to children and families using both traditional and non-traditional therapeutic methods. Dr. Leslie works with children and families as well as couples and individuals ages 18 months and up. She also completes psychological assessments for individuals ages 18 months through adult.

Jodi Nelson M.Ed. LMFT 

                With what seems like an infinite reservoir of positive energy, Jodi is the true image of a caring and enthusiastic therapist. Fulfilling both her career dreams, Jodi has transformed from coach to high school teacher to mental health practitioner, thus, acquiring a wealth of professional experience in a relatively short period of time.
                Jodi earned a Master’s degree in Education from Saint Mary’s University and obtained her certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy from Saint Cloud State University. Before her adventurous spirit brought her to our team, Jodi taught Health to grades six through ten. Her experiences in the mental health profession include working as an in-home therapist with families and working as a therapist with adolescents in residential treatment. She is also a certified therapist for EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association), a leading national program in the area of equine-assisted psychotherapy.

Heather Anderson M.S. LMFT

Heather began her career as a victims advocate for the central MN Task Force for Battered Women and then as an in home family therapist for Lutheran Social services. Heather furthered her professional development and interests by working in the school systems working with children and families and chemical health. This work lead her to working with co-morbid issues such as anxiety, depression, family dynamics, and parent-child conflict.  Heather uses a systems oriented solution focused approach with children and families and often integrates this approach with CBT and psycho educational model of therapeutic intervention.

Jennifer Bischoff M.S. LMFT - 

Jennifer began her career as a mental health practitioner working with adolescents in residential
treatment. With a passion for helping children, she then began working as an in home therapist with
children with autism, as well as coaching parents on how best to help their children. Jennifer has also
had the opportunity to lead and mentor new mental health practitioners in applied behavior analysis.
Jennifer furthered her professional development by earning her master’s degree in Marriage and Family
Therapy from Saint Cloud State University. As part of her education, she completed an internship with
preadolescent children at Catholic Charities Intensive Day Treatment.

Jennifer is experienced in family dynamics, issues accompanying the stressors of having a child with
special needs, and teaching children coping mechanisms when dealing with change and challenging
home environments. Jennifer uses a systemic approach with children and families.

Kristin Lewis M.S. LMFT    

Kristin is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Minnesota with a wide range of experiences in the mental health field. Kristin began her career as a mental health practitioner working with adolescents in residential and day treatment programs. Since earning a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology with certification in Marriage and Family Therapy from St. Cloud State University, Kristin has worked with individuals, couples, and families in a variety of settings including Intensive In-Home Therapy, office-based therapy, as well as school-based therapy. While the mode of therapy is determined by the needs of the client, Kristin draws primarily from the systems and cognitive-behavioral approaches to therapy. As a therapist, Kristin strives to meet clients with empathy and understanding, no matter where they are at in their journey of healing. Kristin works with children ages 6+ and their families as well as adults who seek individual or couples therapy. Interests include family relationships, parenting, anxiety and stress reduction, depression, work related issues, self-esteem, and mind-body health.

Kathleen Anderson MS LMFT

Kathleen Anderson received her Master’s degree in Community Counseling and Rehabilitative Counseling at SCSU in 1998.  In 2008 Kathleen furthered her education and became licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist.  Kathleen’s clinical experience is working with adults, couples, families and older children and teens.  Kathleen has more than a dozen years providing intensive family therapy services and is confident in treating disruptive disorders in children and in providing mental health treatment for individuals diagnosed with serious and persistent mental illness.  Kathleen’s approach has been descried as ‘candid and caring’; she has special awareness in helping victims recover from domestic abuse and she is intense in helping families or individuals restore their interpersonal relationships.  Kathleen has more than 5 years of experience working with domestic violence and trauma with families and individuals.

Roxie - Retired

Roxie is a six year old female Boxer who is experienced in the art of happiness.

 

Gary

Gary is a one year old orange tabby. He is affectionate and loves to purr. Gary can often be seen in the barn, tagging along and offering support for those who need it.

Mina Mae

Mina is True Balance’s oldest feline friend. Mina is a three year old gray and white tabby who’s purpose in life is to sit on comfy chairs and laps. She is happy to help you relieve your stress.

ShahRahz (Shazi)

Shazi is an 14 year old Purebred Arabian Gelding. He is just starting his career as a therapy horse, but puts 110% into everything he does. Shazi is also a successful show horse in halter and western pleasure and has sired foals with that winning attitude. Of course, now that he is gelded he has decided that he has much more fun being social than anything and often follows others around in the pasture.

Colour Her Elegant

Ellie is a 9 year old National Show Horse mare. She is laid back and easy going, with a touch of "tude" that is always engaging. This one will keep you on your toes.

Zoe

Zoe is a four year old grade 1/2 Arabian, 1/2 Quarter horse mare. She is full of curiosity and sass. She loves to go where she knows she should not and get into trouble.
 

Shelby

Shelby is a13 year old Arabian mare. Shelby has been primarily a broodmare and is excellent with children and families. 
 

Misha

Misha is a 7 year old grey arabian mare. She is a quiet and gentle soul that often walks softly but dilligently carries a big stick.
 

Jilly

Jilly is a 7 year old Friesian mare, who is the newest addition to the True Balance Family. She is truely a quiet giant, with loads of patience and tolerance.
